President Trump wants to freeze federal vehicle efficiency and appliance standards, but states are stepping up with some of their own policies to improve energy efficiency, promote electric vehicles and increase the number of zero-energy buildings. Lawmakers in some states including Iowa and Connecticut have tried to relax efficiency standards, but others — including New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Colorado, and Arkansas — plan to increase investments in efficiency and clean energy.
